Although there were movies of Mammotty which were underwhelming to watch especially after his movies from 2010. But Mammotty broke the jinx in one movie which is not well known among the audience, though it proved a subtle yet powerful comeback in his career. It is none other than Munnariyippu, a very complex psychological movie.

Performance

The highlight of Munnariyippu lies in its performances, especially Mammootty as C.K Raghavan. This is not a loud, evergreen or a heroic role; instead, it is deeply unsettling and creepy. Mammootty nailed his performance in this movie, relying on subtle expressions, minimal dialogues and a complex body language to convey the complexity of his character. His character remains very ambiguous to the very end of the movie. What makes his performance unforgettable is that he constantly shifts between vulnerability and quiet menace.

Anjali Gopinath also delivers a strong performance as Anjali Arakkal. She portrays the curiosity and the determination of a journalist, while gradually revealing the emotional and psychological toll of her involvement with Raghavan. Her transformation from curiosity to gradual realisation serves as an anchor to the narrative.

The supporting cast, though limited in screen time, adds realism to the film without overshadowing the central performances. Overall the movie is a character driven approach, with performances that feel layered and authentic
